Day One
Depart London Heathrow on multi-award winning British Airways flight to Beijing.
Day Two
Arrive at Beijing, where you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to the Qian Men Jian Guo Hotel for three nights in a Standard Room. The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore Beijing until evening when you will sample a local delicacy Beijing Duck in one of the premier restaurants in Beijing.
Day Three
After breakfast at your hotel, there is a guided tour visiting the largest square in the world, Tiananmen Square also known as ‘The Gate of the heavenly sky’. Your journey continues onwards to the Forbidden City, from 1420 - 1911 AD once China’s political centre now the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient architecture in China from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This afternoon, your tour continues to the colourful Temple of Heaven, according to Chinese traditional was for imperial use only, built in 1420 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, spent time praying during the year for good harvest. The rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure to explore Beijing independently.
Day Four
After breakfast, drive to The Great Wall at Mutianyu, built in 1569 to protect China against the Barbarians from Manchuria and Mongolia rebuilt in 1988, now one of China’s premier tourist attractions. Included in your tour is a cable car ride up and down the wall, or you may decide to slide down the wall by ‘Toboggan’. On your return, there is a photo opportunity at the Olympic Stadium, built for the hugely successful China Olympic Games in 2008, including the famous Bird’s nest building. Following on from the Olympic stadium enjoy a Rickshaw tour of Huttong, down the alleys and lanes, typical of this area, built during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore Beijing independently.
Day Five
After breakfast at your hotel, there is an exciting journey on the Fast Train to Pingyao, on arrival you will be met by your English-speaking tour guide and transferred to the Hong Shan Yi Hotel, for one night in a standard room, including daily breakfast. This afternoon, visit the Ancient City of Pingyao built more than 2,700 years ago; during the Qing Dynasty was the financial centre of China. The ancient city famous for its well-preserved buildings is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and major tourist attraction.
Day Six
This morning after breakfast, there is a transfer to the railway station for your Fast Train to Xi’an. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the The Grand Noble Hotel, for two nights including daily breakfast. In the Western Han Dynasty over 1,000 years ago, Xi’an was the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, attracting Arabic and Persian merchants settling into what is now known as Muslim Street, their ancestors still living in Muslim Street are now called Hui people by the locals. Paved with blue flagstones, lined and shaded by trees, the archaic stores lining the street are now operated by the Hui people. As you walk down Muslim Street, you will see well retained ancient buildings, the Tang Dynasty Hanguang Gate, the Xicheng Gate Tower Cluster of the Ming Dynasty a Taoist Temple and the Grand Mosque. Regarded as a fantastic tourist destination it is actually a fantastic food destination for the locals, with a variety of restaurants and food stalls serving eclectic local delicacies. This evening enjoy dinner in Muslim Street.
Day Seven
This morning after breakfast at your hotel, you will be collected by your English Speaking Guide for a tour to the famous Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Discovered in 1974, by a local farmer is possibly one of China’s most important finds in the 21st century. An ‘Army’ of over 1,700 figures now faithfully restored, built by the Emperor Qinshi Huangdi to protect him in death against his enemies. After this fascinating tour, your journey continues to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the cradle of Buddhism, built in 589 AD is one of the oldest structures in China.
Day Eight
This morning, there is a tour of the Xi’an City Walls, the most ancient city wall in China, built during the Tang Dynasty and made bigger during the Ming Dynasty. Once used as a military defence against invaders, now an important tourist attraction in this ancient city. Your journey continues onwards to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. On arrival, you will be met your English Speaking guide with a transfer to the Bund Hotel, for three nights including daily breakfast. After a light refreshment and a short rest at your hotel, you will continue your tour Down Town. Your tour starts at The Bund, located on the west bank of the Huangpu River, subject to time available stroll along Nanjing Road, the oldest shopping street in Shanghai and now considered to be one of the best in the world. This evening enjoy a cruise along the Huangpu River, with spectacular views of this vibrant city.
Day Nine
After breakfast at your hotel then a city tour, starting at extensive gardens of Yu Yuan Gardens (Garden of Happiness) with a beautiful Tea House sitting on a small bridge and located in the Old City of Shanghai. Your tour continues to Pudong, to view the famous TV Tower (Pearl Tower), built in 1995 standing 468 metres high, its revolving area awards spectacular views of Shanghai, on the ground floor enjoy the Wax Museum. Your tour ends with a visit to the Shanghai History Museum.
Day Ten
This morning, your tour of Shanghai continues with a visit to the Zhujiajiao Water Village, built 1,700 years ago along the canals also carries the elegant name of Pear Stream, one of the best-preserved ancient towns in Shanghai. This tranquil town is complete with unique old bridges crossing streams and willow shaded rivers the perfect getaway from the bustling city of Shanghai. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore Shanghai or catch up on some last minute shopping in Nanjing Street.
Day Eleven
After breakfast at your hotel and checkout, there is a transfer to the airport for your return British Airways flight back to the United Kingdom.
