You may not have heard of PyeongChang, but this charming Korean county will be on everyone’s lips by the time the winter Olympics swing around. That is because it will host the famous games in February 2018.

Visitors can see athletes battle it out to win prestigious medals for their nation during various contests that span over 17 days.

The upcoming games marks an exciting time for the county as it will be held in Korea for the first time in 30 years - after the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.

PyeongChang will be the stage for the opening and closing ceremonies and most snow sports.

That is because it boasts two main ski resorts - Alpensia and Yongpyong. Alpensia will house the main Olympic village, and will host the ski jumping, luge, bobsleigh and cross-country skiing, while Yongpyong, which is one of northeast Asia’s better ski resorts, will host the downhill slalom events.

During the celebrations, the town of Hoenggye, will serve as a transit hub for both ski resorts and will provide cheaper eating options, some nightlife, and basic accommodation.
